Victorian Baker's Bread Scales
Victorian Baker's Bread Scales
Victorian Baker's Bread Scales with brass fittings, cast weight hook one side, and steel bread claws the other in very good condition. Bread had to be sold by weight in victorian times, or the baker was eligible to be fined. The steel claws held the loaf being weighed. The beam scales are marked TO WEIGH 4LBS CLASS C and made by HEATH of Edmonton (George Philip Heath (b.1867) in Devon, scalemaker) The scales could be adjusted to weigh more by adding weights onto the hook side. Will hang flat on a kitchen wall and always make a good talking point with people trying to guess their use.
